Phyliomedusa bicolor, The Giant Monkey Tree Frog

Kambô, a non psychoactive healing medicine for the spirit, mind, and body.

What is Kambô

Kambô, "the vaccine of the forest", is the secretion of the Phyliomedusa Bicolor, aka the Giant Monkey Tree Frog or Waxy Monkey Tree Frog. They can be found in the Amazonian Rainforest across Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, and Venezuela. The indigenous peoples of these regions work with this medicine and teacher for both spiritual and physical reasons . In their traditions, It has been known to clear stagnant heavy energy, panema, restore strength, clarity, focus, and vitality as well as provide protection by fortifying the body and spirit against disease and negative energies. It was brought to the Western world in the 80's so now we get to also receive the incredible healing benefits and teachings of this great medicine.

The frogs are very well tended to and nurtured with the highest respect while the medicine is being collected, even being sung to and prayed over. The medicine I procure is completely ethically sourced. As the frogs have no natural predators in the jungle it is widely believed by the indigenous people that this frogs purpose is a medicine and spirit serving as powerful tool for cleansing, protection, and vitality.

The secretions of the frog contain amino acids, proteins, and peptides. Scientific research has revealed that the wide range of compounds and bioactive peptides are antimicrobial, anti-fungal, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory. Some even possess analgesic (pain relieving) properties that are able to cross the blood brain barrier and influencing the nervous system directly.  Modern science is now able to validate what indigenous peoples using Kambô have understood for centuries; this is a powerful medicine that acts on multiple systems by stimulating purging, cleaning the bile and lymph system while simultaneously modulating mood, improving focus, memory and stress resilience, enhancing circulation, impacting the immune system, while also being able to reduce physical and emotional pain.

It is a gift and honor to serve this medicine and it is one that should be met integrity, humility, and deep respect.

Benefits of Kambo

Kambô is considered an ordeal medicine due to the intensity of its immediate effects. People often experience:

  • Sweating and temperature shifts

  • Increased Heart Rate

  • Nausea and purging in the forms of vomiting and/or diarrhea

  • Temporary swelling of the face and throat

While these reactions can be challenging, the purges in any form, are the healing effects of the medicine and part of the purification process. These reactions are supporting the body release toxins and stagnant energy (panema). Following the season the benefits are reported as:

  • Greater clarity and focus

  • A "lighter" feeling in body and spirit

  • Emotional resilience and enhanced vitality.

  • Can strengthen discipline and resilience.

  • Nurtures harmony in the mind, body, and spirit.

What to expect

You will arrive to my home after following a 12 hour fasting protocol. You are welcome to bring your favorite blanket or altar items but I will provide you a mat and most everything you'll need for our time together.

  • We will open the ceremony up with song and prayer and you are welcome to share your intentions and calling to this medicine and we will have some conversation around the structure and safety of the ceremony.

  • You will have the option of adding Sananga and Hapê, two other sacred medicines that pair well with Kambô (see below for more information about them).

  • I will open the "gates" by burning the tip of an incense stick and creating superficial burns in the places we have discussed; likely arms or ankles (perhaps chakra points but not on our first sit together).

  • I will constitute the medicine while you are drinking the water I have provided for you.

  • The application of the medicine happens one at a time.

  • Medicine will be applied to the "gates" beginning with the farthest away point.

  • You will begin to feel the effects of the medicine entering your system almost immediately. You may feel your pulse quicken, temperature rise. You may expereince blood rushing to the hands and face and you will want to begin to surrender to the intensity.

  • Purging could commence at any time and last nearly the entire ceremony. It could look like sweating, vomiting, bottom purges (or both at the same time), as well as emotional releases.

  • Ceremonies have variables but the medicine will stay on the gates for up to 20 min with the most intense of the effects happening in the first 5- 7 minutes.

  • I will be with you every step of the way. Helping you to move any stuck energy as well assisting you to the bathroom - it's always safety first, don't worry I've seen it all.

  • Once the effects of the medicine have diminished I will remove it from your body, apply dragons blood, and you will be able to rest while I prepare snacks.

  • We will have time to connect and you can share your expereince and anything that is coming up for you.

  • Benefits of the medicine take root fairly quickly as well and although you may feel tired you may also feel clear, focus, and light.

Why We Vomit with Kambô

Several peptides in Kambô stimulate intestinal contractions. This can be one of the most commonly misunderstood effects of the medicine. Because you have fasted it is common to purge bile as the medicine targets the liver, kidneys, gallbladder, and colon so Kambô stimulates the release of it. It's best to think of the purge as a positive effect. You're not "getting sick" you're "getting well."

What conditions does it treat?

Chronic fatigue, functional freeze, brain fog, migraines, depression, heavy metals and deep rooted toxins, chronic pain, herpes, parasites, candida overgrowth, emotional blocks, fungal infections/mold toxicity.

How may sessions do I need?

This is largely dependent on your intentions, goals, and health. In the case of inflammation, bacteria, chronic health conditions, viral infection, or detoxification protocol it is common for one to sit in a series in a shorter amount of time and then have a maintenance protocol. It is also absolutely ok to sit with Kambô one time. This is all up to the individual and something we will explore in our discovery call.

Sananga

A traditional Amazonian eye medicine prepared from the roots of the Tabernaemontana shrub, a plant family rich in alkaloids and healing compounds supporting physical and spiritual healing. The effects of sananga are profound and bring about an intense sensation immediately when applied. It holds a special place in ceremony and daily life in the jungle. It is often used before and during hunting expeditions to heighten perception, awareness, and accuracy. It also supports healing physical eye conditions like stigmatisms, cataracts, and glaucoma It can flush away eye floaters, and supports over all vision and ocular health. It is a purifier and is an (optional) ally in Kambô ceremony.

Rapé (pronounced ha-peh)

A sacred Amazonian snuff blended with plants and trees. It has been carried by tribes for countless generations and is more than a plant blend, it is a tool for cleansing, gournding and aligning the mind, body spirit. It is a prayer through the breath and a plant spirit ally. Each tribe has its own recipes, prayers, and blends, but is typically a blend of finely ground tobacco (Nicotiana rustica) combined with ashes of sacred trees and other medicinal or sacred plants. In the jungle it is a daily part of life used as a tool of focus before hunting or to clear mental and energetic blockages as well as aligning energy channels before working with other medicines like Kambô. For us, it is supportive physically, emotionally, and energetically and it's effects may include: clearing mental fog, grounding and calming, activate deeper presence, support the body's purification process as well as release emotional heaviness or confusion. If you choose to work with it I will serve you with a traditional Tepi pipe.
